Mind=Small Self?(1st paragraph) I believe that my Authentic Self also thinks and has a mind. I guess I'm not getting something or I'm getting my philosophies tangled.

I found that EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) really helped me to let go of a particulary painful event from my childhood. It's a structured approach to address past, present and future aspects of disturbing or painful memories. It just came to mind when reading your notes. I guess it would be a stretch to call it a type of guided mindfulness meditation, but it accomplishes the goal of helping to release the pain of past events. In my case, I rarely think of the event anymore and when I do, it is with curiosity not anger and hurt.

I had a brief stay in a mental hospital and I never once got a visit from my pastor, and yes he knew I was there. Why do pastors treat mental hospital differently than medical hospitals, what are they so afraid of ? I also had no support from the church, I had 4 small children and a husband left to care for them. No one sent meals, cards or even called. Is this the typical responce from churches ?

I'm a hospital chaplain with special focus in Behavorial Health; conducting both in and outpatient spirituality groups. I would suggest you check out the website mentalhealthministries.net. Rev. Susan Gregg-Schroeder, an UMC pastor, provides a variety of information for local churches to better reach-out in ministry with folks dealing with mental illness. Thank you for your work in this important area of need.
